The Degree is a 5-story, 376,531 SF wood structure that contains 226 fully furnished apartment units with 758 individual beds for students attending the University of Nevada Las Vegas. Secured parking is provided by a 5-story pre-cast interior concrete 447-stall parking garage. Amenities include a clubhouse with social lounges and media rooms, resort style pool with sun decks, fitness center, outdoor fire-pit lounge and BBQ area clubhouse, cyber cave, and leasing office.
The design of this building is commonly referred to as a Texas Donut. Each loop of rooms wrapped either around an internal parking structure or an internal courtyard with pool and social area amenities. This a 5-story wood framed structure. The exterior cladding is a UNLV color themed stucco with a sand finish. The roofing is a white TPO membrane supplied by Carlisle.
The intended purpose of this project is to cater to the university student. The design and function had to be tailored to a specific type of consumer, a person in their late teens and early twenties. Some of these types of considerations were bike racks on every floor. A sand filled volleyball court was included in the courtyard as well as several other features. Appealing to the higher level of social interaction that a dormitory lifestyle lends itself to, features like a fire pit, turf gaming areas, an outdoor TV wall, a twin BBQ station, as well as a 20,000 gallon pool and spa all finish off the interior courtyard build-out.
